The Leaving Type and Leaving Code Description fields can show different information for the same employee. This article explains where each field gets its data and why the two values can differ.
Where each field gets its data
Leaving Type
The Leaving Type field gets its data from the HR Person Master table. This table holds a summary of the employee's overall contract. Because of this, Leaving Type can have a value even when Leaving Code Description is blank.
Leaving Code Description
The Leaving Code Description field gets its data from the Appointment History table. This table holds individual appointments within an employee's contract. Only the last appointment in a contract sequence includes leaver information, so this field can be blank.
Why the fields can differ
The two fields are drawn from different tables, so their values don't always line up. The HR Person Master table reflects the overall contract, and the Appointment History table reflects individual appointments.
What this means for you
Use Leaving Type for a more complete view of leaver information, especially when the two fields differ.
Use Leaving Code Description for context on a specific appointment, when it is populated.
