Extract characters up to a symbol

If you need to input a calculation to extract/get characters up to an '@' symbol from an email address you can use the below calculation:

substr(contact_text, 1, instr(contact_text, '@')-1)

You would swap out 'contact_text' for whatever the field you want to do and the @ sign for whatever symbol or character you want to gather up to.
